Can't seem to put it down, 2010-09-01 Reading is my favorite funtime activity. But now with my Kindle, I just want to spend more time reading. It is so convenient to carry it with me and read while waiting at appointments, at break time at work, and of course during the evening hours. I don't watch any TV so my Kindle is my evening activity.
I used to take ten books with me on vacation, taking up so much space while traveling; now my Kindle is filled with all my favorite literature classics to reread, autobiographies, and my favorite authors' works, all contained in a light-weight, easy to read, easy to hold Kindle device.
I read two or three books at a time which the Kindle makes it easy going from one to another.
Thanks, Amazon, for all the free books I have downloaded on my Kindle. The Wispernet transfer is quick and I love the feature that I can have just a sample chapter sent to read.
My Kindle truly is a pleasure!
Kindle, great product, 2010-09-01 The Kindle is a great product. I received it as a gift from my wife. I am from and live in Mexico, but I have always liked to read books in English. It is an excellent way to practice the language and it also gives me access to a great variety of authors. Thanks to the Kindle I have immediate access to a huge array of books. 3G works perfectly in Mexico and in seconds I can buy books and have them downloaded in my Kindle immediately. Actually, I now find myself reading more than before. I have also found a good amount of books in Spanish, mostly classics; I think Amazon is doing a good job in expanding its book offers in languages other than English. The display of the Kindle is excellent; I can read for hours as if reading a normal book. I can travel and have a good amount of books to read without overloading my luggage. I highly recommend this product.
Excellent but more crash-prone than Kindle 2, 2010-08-31 The pros of this device have been well covered by others. It is compact, lightweight, very easy on the eyes and generally a pleasure to use. I like it enough that I ordered a second one for my wife.
I previously had the Kindle 2 for 30 days, having bought it on the last day it was available. It was slightly larger and heavier than the kindle 3, but never crashed. The lighter build of the Kindle 3 is partially a disadvantage; I suspect that if it were accidentally dropped, it would be more likely to get damaged than a Kindle 2. For this reason, there is probably more need to use a carrying case, which would add weight to the package and essentially negate the advantage versus Kindle 2 of lower device weight.
The Kindle 3 has crashed numerous times in the 5 days I have had it. This was particularly true when I used wi-fi to access the web or wikipedia. I finally decided to turn wi-fi off and just use the 3G connection. There has still been one crash since then, while I was navigating sections in a Kindle-version newspaper, but that is a lot better than crashing every few minutes.
I rate this device four stars, but rated the Kindle 2 five stars.
My new best friend, 2010-08-31 I read. A lot. And I take a book with me pretty much everywhere I go. The Kindle makes this much easier, and I can take SEVERAL books wherever I go! My Kindle has been to the beach, to the mountains, and to the pool. I got a lovely pouch for it on Etsy, so it's protected from scratches and drops (yeah, it's been dropped a few times, but no problems).
As long as the wireless is turned off, the battery lasts for weeks. The wireless eats it up faster, but only turn it on to download books.
I suppose this would be better if it had a touch screen, and you didn't have to scroll with the menu button to highlight or access the dictionary. But if you really want that, get an iPad. If you only want a great reader (book replacement), at a great price, the Kindle is the way to go!
The Best Thing Ever!, 2010-08-31 I have the 2nd Generation Kindle and I simply love it. At first I missed the act of flipping pages, but I got over that so quick!
I have spent a small fortune [to me anyway] on kindle books since I received it in February. At least the prices are around half the cover price unless you shop somewhere like a bargain/used book store.
The only thing I dont like about the kindle is the text to speech. I've only attempted to use it once and the recording was awful! The man was so monotone that I turned it off within seconds. If the rest of the books are this way then I highly suggest someone working on this.
Other than that, this is the best investment I have made for myself in forever!
