Product Description At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Best Thing Ever!, 2010-03-12 I received my new Kindle several days ago, and love it so much! It is very easy to use. The reading screen is a perfect size, and the readability and look of the pages is absolutely fantastic. I love to read while eating lunch at my desk. With paperback books, you basically have to eat with one hand, or weight down one side of the book to keep the pages open while you read. No problem with the Kindle! Ever tried to read outside while the pages of your book keep blowing over? No problem with the Kindle! And, it's comforting to be able to have all your favorite books with you all the time. They've thought of everything a reader would want in an electronic book. I can't praise it enough.
Kindle, 2010-03-12 I love my Kindle! It is so easy to take places and very easy to purchase items. The only thing I wish it had was a back light so when reading in the dark you have a built in light.
Sorry I Bought, 2010-03-12 I bought the Kindle for cost and convenience. I now have only convenience.
Amazon touted the Kindle as a device that can save readers money. They broadcast the $9.99 pricing for best selling books to the rafters. For a avid reader such as myself - 5 or 6 books a month - spending $300 all in for a Kindle and related accessories was a cost to be amortized. Not hard to do it when you are saving $5 to $8 for each book of their discounted price for hardcovers. That's 50/60 books or so.
Now think about that. If you read a book a week - most people don't - you need more than a YEAR to recoup your cost. With me it would take about 10 months.
So I took the plunge.
And then Amazon pulled the rug out from under me. They caved in to the publishers without so much as a whimper. Yeah, there was some publicity about taking down one publisher's title. But then, snap your fingers, and their back. And guess what? Prices are up almost across the board. Now Kindle buyers can maybe save a fraction of what we were saving before. In one bizarre case, they acutally had the stones to offer the Kindle version of the book at a price HIGHER than the hardcover. Huh?
Now why would Amazon fold like a cheap camera, so fast?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they were using the lower prices to buy market share? I read somewhere that Amazon had to pay the same price for Kindle versions as they did for hardcovers - i.e., 50% of list. At that level, Amazon was losing money. Enter Apple. They aren't in the business of losing money to buy market share - they use gee whiz. They have their I-Tunes model where they sell at a price and take a percentage. Hmm. Guess what? That's their preferred model, and that's the model that Amazon is now accepting. So, they no longer have to lose money by paying the same price for both hard and electronic versions of books.
The only problem here is that they have MILLIONS of people who relied upon their $9.99 pricing policy when they bought their Kindle. Now they change the game and we have these expensive gadgets that we bought based upon a different economic model.
Amazon - you really stabbed us in the back. Not nice, not right and it makes me really angry.
Kindle, 2010-03-12 I love my Kindle and would reccommend it to anyone that reads a lot. It downloads books in less than a minute, is easy to use, and there are thousands and thousands of titles to choose from.
Banish wasting time, 2010-03-12 The general reaction from my friends was the same--you, the one with books in every room--a kindle??? Yes it is true you can find a book or something to read in EVERY room in my house. I love the feel of a book in my hands. The thought of having a few thousand books in such a portable light weight genie was too good to pass up. I bought it and I LOVE it. My handbag no longer weighs a hundred pounds. Waiting on a line, in the doctor's office or whatever time wasting event is no longer a study in aggravation. Pull out your Kindle and enjoy your time! Now stop reading and go order your Kindle now!
