Amazon.com Product Review The Scott's classic reel mower is light, maneuverable, and economical. The business end of this push reel mower is solid, sharp, and everything a reel mower should be, with five heat-treated, knife-sharp steel blades that can be adjusted for nine grass heights with very easy wheel tabs. With its 10-inch wheels, radial tires, and 20-inch cutting width, this mower should enable you to cross whatever terrain and reach whatever hard-to-access rogue patches of grass you desire. There's no soft cushion on the handle, which is too bad, but otherwise, the Scotts Classic is a durable, well-constructed, simple device.

so far, so good, 2008-11-19 Just got it for our new home which has about a quarter acre lawn. It took about a half hour to get all unpacked and put together, and when I started mowing my wife decided it looked fun so she mowed the lawn. I've only used it once, but it cuts and rolls great and is easy to adjust cutting height. I looked around about an hour online and this seemed to get the best reviews. Now it's snowing so I won't have to mow for a few months. Will update if there are any issues...
All I thought it would be, 2008-10-31 I am extremely happy with this lawn mower. The wide width makes cutting the grass faster. Surprisingly I am still able to get close to my many plants and trees. 1) It is also easy to push - it's really not your grandfather's mower, 2) the heighth adjustment makes it more versatile, 3) No gasoline to buy and no fumes to inhale, 4) no winterizing is needed, 5) environment-friendly, 6) the light weight makes me able to carry it into the basement for winter storage, and last but not least, my lawn looks much better cut instead of chewed.
good when cutting short grass, but a pain with tall grass, 2008-10-17 we bought this when we moved into our new house where seemed like no one had taken care of the lawn after the purchase agreement was signed. It did not work at all because of the tall grass. It simply pushed them down without cutting any. We bought a gas mower right away to save the pain-(: However, we are keeping this one and use it sometime, it works fine when the grass is a little bit taller than what you wnat them to be, not as clear-cut as the gas mower though, but no noise at all, we can use it around the house when our baby is asleep.
Delightful !, 2008-10-17 Not bad to put together. As one person said, it was easier to look at the picture on the box and apply logic. Being "assembly challenged" it took awhile, but I got there. Felt pretty good about it. I then went out to mow. Surprisingly it was easier than trying to start my gas mower, no bag to empty and then try to get on again, I do have a smallish grassy area in the front and side of my house, but even with twigs and leaves I encountered little problem. In fact, if I'm honest, I felt good. It was easy. No noisy motor or fumes, no worry if you have gas in the tank, perfect for me. I live in a wooded area, don't have the perfect lawn, but it suits me fine. Easy enough to do twice if you need to. I love this thing. I'm a retired female with a total hip replacement. Best therapy in the world being able to do it yourself.
Good eco-friendly mower; but not perfect, 2008-10-17 From reading the reviews, I thought this mower would be the panacea of all mowers. It is, indeed, very good. But, I have to provide an objective, balanced review.
Pros:
1) Quiet (but not silent) operation.
2) No gas or electricity. Very eco-friendly!
3) Push and go. Little maintenance.
4) Cheaper than other eco-friendly options like battery powered mowers or corded.
5) Easy for small lawns; produces a crisp, clean cut if you go over the area thoroughly.
6) Small size is good for storage.
I give it a high recommendation, but it is not perfect for several reasons:
CONS
1) It does not do well against edges of the lawn. This is because the wheels must touch solid ground to operate the blades. If you edge is against a curb, this will be hard to accomplish.
2) It will NOT cut weeds, tall grass, or wet/damp grass (it will somewhat, but not very well).
3) Twigs, debris, etc. will often clog the mower.
4) The grass clippings can be lodged on the back of the mower and will fall off into your garage (or wherever you store this mower). It is necessary to lift the mower and/or manually pull out the excess clippings.
5) The handle is not a single solid piece and, therefore, is a bit wobbly. It would have been better to have a single solid handle.
Overall, I would likely buy the mower again given the size of my lot. However, if you have 3/4 acre or more, this might be too strenuous if you are unaccustomed to it. Also, if you want a flawless yard or have some inclines, it may not meet expectations.
It is likely best suited for a 1/2 acre or less yard with only gentle slopes.
