Foods have special effects on pain, and research studies substantiate this, says Neal Barnard, M.D., in Foods That Fight Pain, a book endorsed by fellow doctors Dean Ornish and Andrew Weil. You can use foods to fight pain in these ways:

1. Choose pain-safe foods. Reduce inflammation by avoiding foods that may be causing or aggravating your pain.

2. Add soothing foods that ease pain. Different foods may improve blood flow, relieve inflammation, or balance hormones.

3. Use supplements if needed. Herbs, extracts, and vitamins can relieve pain.

Dr. Neal Barnard dares to tell the truth about foods that others won't. If you're looking for REAL solutions, this is a MUST READ. His books are VERY revealing and his suggestions/prescriptions actually work!! Don't pass this up! They will absolutely change the way you look and feel, and the way you think about food. I've only just begun to incorporate his suggestions, and the weight is dropping off like I've never experienced before! I recommend "Breaking the Food Seduction," and "Foods That Cause You to Lose Weight." If you're ready to face the truth about food and how it really affects you, I encourage you to trust Dr. Barnard as a true health expert! Keep them coming, Dr. Barnard - I'm waiting for your next book!

This is an excellent resource, well documented, very well written, providing significant suggestions for overall health as well as specific pain-fighting strategies. Pleasantly surprised to see large section of cookbook recipies incorporating the research into practical dishes. Highly recommend.

This book has changed my life! I was diagnosed with fibro 13 years ago and have had my ups and downs. This past year, I had a flair up like never before and found out I also have osteoarthritis. After going through the typical meds cycle and physical therapy, someone recommended this book to me. I have to say I cried the day after I read it because it seemed so drastic, but my pain was great and I was willing to try anything. After 8 weeks, my symptoms decreased and my sleep was restored. I've been on the diet since the beginning of March, and can't rave about it enough. I've found that tomatoes and chocolate are triggers for me. I've added everything except meat, dairy and eggs back into my diet.

Thanks to this book, my fibro is under control, my pain is practically gone, I sleep through the night, and I'm not on any medications. I highly recommend this book to anyone with chronic pain. Not only did the diet work for me, but I learned so much about how food affects my body. I also recommend Dr. Barnard's other book Nutrition Food For Life. I am a believer that you are what you eat.

I wish I knew this book years ago. This is the best book on the topic of food and diseases.

After acting on book's principles, I have solved a number of healthy issues that have been with me and my wife. Just mention a few: 1) with immune system boosting, we rarely get cold as compared to previously, 2) arthritics pain is gone. 3) back muscle pain is gone.

In addition to solving problems, this is the best book on preventative medicine.

Excellent book from a physician who has researched this topic thoroughly. Many of the studies here are so informative and crucial to our health, yet you may not find them in other places. Finally a medical authority brave enough to tell the truth and the whole truth with all the science and studies well-documented. More than just a way to treat disease, this book helps you to prevent it in the first place. The chapter about the early human diet is worth its weight in gold. Must read this book...it may save your life, a wise purchase.
