Susan Johnson at her best!, 2008-04-21 After lady Chealsea's farther planed to arrange A marriage to A man she can't stand, The 17 year old lady decides to enter into an illicit affair with the wickedest rake in all of London so that he could ruin her. The only problem is, Sinjin St. John duke of Seth, is not so easily persuaded, But this beautiful lady is A go getter and she will not give up on this delicious conquest. Does she have what it takes to win the heart of such A jaded rake?
What was I thinking? I read this book three years ago and I did not love it at the time. Bone head that I was, I gave it 3 stars in my review book. I guess at the time I was A bit shocked at the way Chealsea relentlessly went after Sinjin without any shame. I now stand corrected! recently something made me give this book another try. Boy! I am so glad I did!
Chealsea is now my favorite romance heroine out of all the books that I've read! She was only 17 years old and SJ portrayed her character to the max. She was vivacious, curious and impulsive with a rebel personality. She was the perfect mate for A man like Sinjin. I loved the way she showed her love for him by never giving up even when he tried to push her away. This book has made me into A fan of other books that has the concept of the heroine in pursuit of the hero. Sinjin's character as A rake was also beautifully portrayed. He was A real rake come to life. Their was no taming of his character. He did what real rakes would when they did not want to be caught. Some of the things he did frustrated me to no end but that was what made this book so intense and exciting! The last few chapters takes you away from England and was some of the most heartwarming scences I have ever read! This book is now on my top ten best books I have ever read list!
Btw, The love scences were steamy!
Exhilaratingly Romantic and Adventuresome!, 2007-04-22 I have read a great number of Susan Johnson's creations, but "Sinful" is by far the best! The story takes the reader on a fantastical journey from England to Greece and then to the far-reaching, mysterious and dangerous African coast! Not only is "Sinful" wonderfully sensual and erotic, it's also historically correct and keeps you hooked with suspense that no one could turn away from! I loved it, hence the 5 stars! I recommend it to any historical romance lover, although her love scenes are not for the faint or prudish of heart! Enjoy!
The Best, 2006-10-27 This is my all time favorite romance novel of all time.
If you have an open mind and heart you will love it!
Kind of Dissapointing **SPOILERS***, 2006-06-20 I liked some of her previous work but this one was just irritating sometimes. She delves into this whole jealousy thing between Cassandra and Vivian againts Chelsea and they infact BET on the likelyhood of the marriage failing and then you hear nothing about them again. He is so used to having sex ALL of the time and then all of a sudden he stops because he is so enamored with Chelsea after she loses thier baby. I mean he slept with her on numerous occasions, left and forgot about her, went back to his mistress(es), and doesn't see her again until he is kidnapped and forced to marry her becuase of the pregnancy! I just thought some of the characters could have been more developed and I wished Chelsea had more of a spine to walk out on him for good rather than just politely ask him about Cassandra. It was just an okay book with alot of stuff that could have been more developed and alot of stuff that could have been left out. The guy she was supposed to get engaged to is just invented to be an irritant throughout the story.
Sinfully bad, 2005-02-15 I bought this book expecting a great read. The cover at least made it sound good. The first part was promising too! Then it got wierd. Once Sinjun and Chelsea had a falling out, he turned so cold that I stopped liking him at all. I agree with the 1st reviewer too, the bad part went on far too long.
Then suddenly there is all of this kidnapping/harem/blind stud/exhibitionsitic/misogynistict stuff that completely disrupts the flow of the book. She begins introducing new characters quickly in the last 50 pages and it becomes some wierd history piece about fueding impotent Arabs etc. As a "Regency" reader, I totally lost interest at this part as it turned into an action/adventure bodice ripper.
The author seems to lose her track somewhere along the way and lost me as well.
