Excellent Summary of Mozart Studies, 2004-09-25 This excellent collection of 17 essays by the leading contemporary (as of 2003) American and British Mozart scholars covers four major aspects of his life and work: The historical context, the works, reception, and performance. This is not a detailed analysis of the works themselves. Rather, it summarizes currently scholarly thinking and reviews the main trends in Mozart studies, with brief comments on major works, a bibilography, and extensive footnotes with citations pointing toward further study and research. Highly recommended as a supplement to other standard works. Especially fascintating is the discussion of the role of the movie "Amadeus" in stimulating interest in him.
