Product Description A historical novel imagines the riveting story behind the Book of Ruth Sitting beneath a tree in ancient Bethlehem, Osnath, niece of the prophet Samuel, examines a dusty scrap of parchment she found hidden in her relative’s scroll room. Scrawled on the decaying page is an intriguing message addressed to Ruth the Moabite—great-grandmother of David, the future king of Israel. Compelled to discover the truth about Ruth’s life, Osnath begins searching for the identity of Ruth’s nameless lover and the secret that is cloaked behind his anonymity. But as she digs deeper into the past, she finds her inquiries blocked by David’s brother Eliab. What is the long-buried truth he fears will come to light? And what is the threat that Ruth’s story poses to his family’s vast inheritance? Eva Etzioni-Halevy’s novel deftly interweaves history and fiction to create a compelling exploration of a prominent biblical figure. Told through the voices of both Osnath and Ruth herself, The Garden of Ruth transports readers into the ancient world—and offers a dramatic and thought-provoking new perspective on a well-known tale.

Biblical fiction at its best, 2008-11-02 Eva Etzioni-Halevy writes with beautiful prose about Biblical subjects. She is able to vividly portray each character in a way that makes you feel as if you're living with them and seeing the things they go through firsthand.
Excellent read.
Captures Your Imagination, 2008-10-03 After reading The Garden of Ruth, which held my attention, I responded to the author's invitation to send comments via her E-Mail. I agreed with the comments of others, on her web site, but I found another quality. It was more than the capturing of my investment in her weaving of human characteristics. It was her use of language, when describing the thread of naturalness, in the lives of her characters.
Excellent Biblical Fiction, 2008-05-05 The Garden of Ruth enhances the biblical story of Ruth and her descendants. Eva Etzioni-Halevy's style is to embellish the biblical story by weaving a story arround the "missing links" and unanswered questions. Her success in blurring the lines is so effective that at times I found it hard to distinguish between what was biblical accuracy and what was indeed fictional. The story line, the mystery and intrigue, and the excellent character development all contributed to my enjoyment of the book.
A Fabulous Read!, 2008-05-01 Not only does Etzioni-Halevy bring us into the world of the bible, she does it in a way that makes us feel that we're right there with Ruth herself! I couldn't put the book down - and put off all other plans for the weekend. I was so sorry to see it end. Etzioni-Halevy is a great writer and she tells a fascinating story.
Eva Etizoni-Halevy's 'THE GARDEN of RUTH' , 2007-10-30 Eva Etzioni-Halevy's 'The GARDEN of RUTH'
'The "Garden of Ruth," as with Eva Etzioni-Halevy's other writings, is a combination of the author's scholarship and her ability to see the sociological, psychological, and spiritual essence of a time and place. The reader steps right into the mind and life of Ruth as Eva brings her Biblical character into three-dimension through the senses enmeshed with the flavor of the ancient vernacular. Through Eva's mind's eye and writing, we begin living with Ruth, hearing her voice, moving through her days as a woman in Biblical times, and meanwhile, seeing into facets of the continuing history of Judiasm. This is so well done in the book that we move right into the story. I believe that people from all cultures can easily feel and comprehend Biblical times as they appeared thousands of years ago.
I love the way Eva weaves mystery and intrigue into each chapter. We 'stay tuned' to find out what happened or will happen next.
Dr. Eva Etizioni-Halevy has the gift of insight which she shares with the world through her knowledge and writing. I greatly appreciate her work.
